Undoubtedly, foreign films face many obstacles in gaining popularity in other markets, so what factors help a film to become popular outside of its country of origin? A film's pattern of success on the global market can be mystifying and unexpected, but is often contingent upon the audience's degree of understanding and appreciation of the foreign culture being represented. For instance, the success of the films: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon in the Western world and La Boum in South Korea exemplify this pattern as well as illustrate how films can overcome cultural difference and become very successful in a foreign film market.
